More Sudoku Lovin

I’m a regular reader of The Washington Post. I saw a new link today introducing their online flash-version of websudoku. I tried playing a game but found the interface lacking. It correctly shows you which rows are correctly filled (but not correctly answered).

The black/lime green color scheme is unintuitive. I wasn’t able to change my answers very easily once I had moved on. Since it can inform you that you have each number in the row, column, or block, then it should be able to tell you when you duplicate a number.

This is a rather poor client and needs some serious work before I switch from WebSudoku.

On a more positive note, I found that there is a PSP Sudoku game to be released by the end of this year here in the states. There’s also a homebrew app version.

Have you discovered Fiendish Sudoku yet? It’s superior to websudoku in every respect. For instance, the puzzle layouts are designed by humans, rather than websudoku’s computer-generated random layouts.

Fiendish Sudoku also has multiple grid sizes, great for those with high-res displays. It can offer hints and step-by-step solutions with explanation (websudoku doesn’t have that either). Also there is multiple-step Undo and Redo, automatic Pencilmarks, and several printing options.

    Worth a look!

Wow, you weren’t kidding. This is very impressive. In fact, I think I will have to switch over to this solely for the whole pencil marks feature. The undo/redo is a VERY nice touch. The only down-side is that humans have to generate the puzzles and therefore you have to expect a finite number of puzzles (assuming you can count computer generated puzzles to be infinite).

Thanks for the heads up. I will endorse this site as a very nice option to websudoku.

This is insane. Fiendish Sudoku is like electronic heroin. The pencil in feature is so amazing. I used to manually do this but it was so laborious that I started just doing electronic puzzles. What makes Fiendish Sudoku so much better is that it does not exactly cheat and tell you when you’ve entered something wrong unless it conflicts. So many times I went down a path and realized that I had screwed the pooch. The reset and undo features are the best.

Thanks for the heads up, I will be adding a link to this site later this week (gotta love holidays).
