Cell Phone Conspiracy

I think I might be on to something here…
Lately I’ve been receiving phone calls from a “PRIVATE” or “UNKNOWN” source (it’s what is displayed on my cell phone caller ID) at a pretty consistent time between 11:00am CT to 2:30pm CT. The caller ID has no phone number attached with it or anything.
When I answer the phone, there was no voice on the other line. I said “Hello?” a couple of times and there are still no voice on the other line. This has happened to me about 4-5 times already. All I hear on the other phone line is the cell phone quality silence. This continues for about 15 seconds while I sit there pondering who’s that annoying ass (or company) that’s doing this to me. Then a sound of a “hung up” is inserted before the end of the phone call.
Here are a list of times that these sources called me since I’ve been keeping track of it

  • Jan 12, 2006 - Thursday - 2:19pm - from “UNKNOWN”
  • Jan 9, 2006 - Monday - 1:27pm - from “UNKNOWN”
  • Jan 5, 2006 - Thursday - 12:02pm - from “PRIVATE”

… and some other times which I haven’t kept track of.

I don’t know what the reason for these people to do this but this needs to stop. If they continue to call in the future I will call my cell phone provider and request where the source is coming from and who knows what happens next.

Do anyone else ever had an incident like me before?

Beware telemarketers. Apparently cell phone numbers are no longer sacred ground, and if you have ever given it out for any sort of contact number from some one other than you know personally there is a chance it was solicited.

Only thing you can do is register on donotcall.gov and see if that fixes the problem, eventually

15 seconds = 1 minute * 8 days = less minutes for you. While 8 minutes is not much cause for concern it is annoying. I used to get those calls and then they stopped. Now I get calls from people looking for Juan or Gina. Gotta love cell phones.

Our home phone is registered on the donotcall.gov and in the last year I have received zero calls like that. Several months after I joined the list and was declared active, I received only a few calls, but the same telemarketer made all of the calls. In the last call, I asked to speak to a supervisor. I informed the supervisor that I was on donotcall.gov and that hefty fines can be levied per infraction (” the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000″). That quickly ended. You can register your cellphone here as well.

Also, PRIVATE may mean that the caller just chose to be unlisted. My parents are unlisted and they show up as PRIVATE. Here’s the trick to getting rid of these people. Most phone companies, especially cell phone carriers, will allow you to strictly block all PRIVATE calls. This is usually a free service, which we use through T-Mobile. If you know anyone who is actually unlisted, you can tell them to use the unblock code before dialing; I believe its *82.

Besides, you could just not answer the phone. As Jokerr mention, it eats up a chunk of your daytime minutes.
