Cell Phone Conspiracy #2: Telemarketers

Author: winningpose
Category: Other

This might be a little long but it might pertain to you.

This morning at 9:50am I got a call from 305-371-7266. I picked up hearing a spanish voice mail like message. I didn’t understand the message as I’m not spanish fluent. The message played then stopped and hung up. I was thinking “WTF” - this probably tied to my Cell Phone Conspiracy Post. I called back that number only to hear a busy signal.

I decided to do a little researching on google for “305-371-7266″. These people are retarded because they didn’t even block their number. I was amazed and enlightened that google had results for that number. After I’ve read the results, I found some rather interesting information about this number.
The first one I read was from http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AofpVTDGSubv9Ayibybe8osjzKIX?qid=1006010802074

I have recieved at least 2 calls in the last 3 days. They have left a message in spanish. Two other family members have recieved them as well.

Additional Details

I have recieved more calls from this number since the last post. I’ve also done some research. The calls are generated from a business in Miami,FLA. They also have 2 other numbers that I have recieved calls from. My service provider can not block these calls. So I think I am going to have to file a complaint with the FCC.

Here’s one where I found amusing:

Yeah, thats so strange i too am recieving calls from this number and i picked up one call and the person was like “hola” and then went off about how there daughter was very pretty and smart and wanted to come to America, i was then asked if i had a wife and if not, if i wanted one… Huh, wonder what that was all about?

That sounds like some illegal Mexican mail order bride service. I’ve heard that people of US Citizenship can marry these girls so they can come to America and the service will pay him $$$. The service gets commision from the girl’s family (for marrying her and enabling her to come to America) and after she comes here she’s under a possible contract to work to pay off the additional balance. Well this is all speculation from me about this topic. I wouldn’t be suprised if my speculation has a little bit of truth in it. This idea sounds like it can be made into a movie (btw I’d suggest Man on Fire).

I got another search result from google http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=Ai_iBQONdQTScrKslxtymJ0jzKIX?qid=1006012306513 which leads me more to the source:

not sure I’ve received calls from this number also as have others

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=1…
http://www.artofcredit.com/board/archive…
http://www.telemarketingfaq.com/forums/s…

I spent a little time finding out some more information here you go:
ML INC
305-371-7266
999 BRICKELL BAY DR, Suite#209 Miami, Florida

building http://www.miamicondocomando.com/four-am…

So the source is from Miami, FL. You can actually see the building on the bottom link.

Here is a post that shocked me when I read it:

OMG DO NOT! answer to this number!!!!! I’ve gotten alot of numbers from area codes 305 and 373 these are scams! do not answer phone calls from numbers beginning 305 or 373. I’ve researched this and found out these people will have your credit card number! They will offer a free gass card or gift cards to various places. When you turn them down they’ll offer you a free magazine subscription. They will repeat the last 4 digits of your credit card number and if u say i gotta go or just hang up they know its urs and its valid. If u do happen to answer one of these call ur credit card company immediatly and cancel it! they will charge you monthly about 50$ please dont answer these calls they will scam you! Tell everyone you know to block them block them in ur privacy section of ur cell phone

So now this call turns into a credit card fraud. I’ve been very careful how I use my credit card too. I don’t use it to pay from sources I don’t know. I’m also aware of the Ebay and Paypal fraud where they create a “fake” Ebay/Paypal page that looks exactly like a real one and try to collect your login information. I’m sure all of you got some sort of message like that.

The next post is just way too weird for me: http://www.telemarketingfaq.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4103#post4103

got THE CALL in texas.

i was able to deciper enough to know it’s either a Spanish angel announcing the Apocalypse or a campaign call from the office of Alberto Gonzales on behalf of Satan. i hung up before it connected to the ‘oficina central’ as my phone started clicking.

seriously though, what if it’s a call center routed between Florida and Cuba that allows The bush Administration to domestically wiretap you because you’re a US citizen speaking with international terrorists? once you answer the call and say a few words you’re in The Log of Eavesdroppable Citizenry, and not just for this call, but for all your future potentially terroristic calls.

Yeah that’s weird…

I received a call from this # and I hook up the phone and a Spanish record machine answered me saying ” You been selected to get a free digital camera, wait in the line and someone will we right with you” so I waited and finally ( these is not the first time that I received this call) spoke with a spanish guy (telemarket) saying ” Sir, you won a trip to Disney everything payed also a digital camera, the only thing that we need is confirm some question. He asked me my name and if I have a ” BANK CARD “, I told him why you need to know that, he said because you will receive everything free and we need it for a Shipping and handle the tickets. He asked me for my phone # and I told him that this phone # is private and it is a Goverment phone line, so he said ” well you need to call to block your number” I said tell me what is the name of your company for block it and he hang me out.
**** BE CAREFULL SOMEONE IS TRYING TO STILL YOU ****

This post sounds about right. Damn telemarketers. Although I didn’t hear a real voice when I received the call.

Here’s a more detailed information about the culprit:

This sounds like one of two things. First, since the number is based in Miami, it is very likely that it is just a telemarketer. Remember, Miami has a very large hispanic population so calling random people in spanish can’t be too bad of an idea.

Second, and far worse, this could be a bunch of scammers. A while back, I remember hearing about people being able to buy cell phone records. Who’s to say this doesn’t fall right in line with that. Buy a list of cell phone owners (who have to have credit cards to be owners), get them to give up personal information like credit card numbers, and profit! Sounds like a recipe for fraud and identity theft.

My advice is to first file a complaint with the FCC. Then file a complaint with your service provider and have them block the number. Most companies allow you to block anonymous calls for free, take advantage of that. Lastly, if you are as paranoid as ghost, don’t answer a phone call in which you do not recognize the number, plain and simple.

Same thing happened to me, and I had the same reaction. This blog entry was the first thing to pop up in Google - just thought I’d say thanks for the info!

  3. Jennifer February 1st, 2006 12:05 pm

Ditto… I’m getting the same thing.

  4. Heather February 1st, 2006 4:19 pm

I did the exact same thing - got the call, went to google, found your blog.

    Thanks for the PSA!!

  5. Munki Bidness February 1st, 2006 6:50 pm

That’s what all this is… munki bidness! To echo the previous posters - thanks for your blog! I usually have to Google for a couple of hours to find out who’s behind what’s “ailing” me at the time, but your blog popped up at the top on the first search. zero-blog is now in my favorites. Thanks again…

Hey people Just wanted to warn you all…there is another number that is circulating…its (614)717-4395….its from OHIO though?…I am getting scared, I don’t want to become victim of Identity theft, Do you think this is the way terrorists are gonna attack the country?

  8. winningpose February 2nd, 2006 10:09 pm

I’m glad you guys gave me some input on this and that it’s been helpful to you. I overall think its just some sort of telemarketing scam.

  9. 5th February 3rd, 2006 7:43 pm

    just got hit by this.

  10. Brian March 15th, 2006 3:39 pm

this is weird, i got a call from that number, I didnt pick up cause I didnt know who it was. 5 minutes later, i got a call from this number: 305-371-7266 and I decided to pick up. “Hola Gracias” is what I get.. then a bunch of noise…

    What is this all about?

  11. nikki March 20th, 2006 10:16 pm

i’ve been getting these from the Ohio number.. 614-717-4395
they have been coming in as late as 10pm, which sketches me out.
i am rcving them on my home phone though, from what i am guessing it sounds like people are getting these on their cellphones?
i haven’t answered them, they’ve been coming for at least a month. i wish it would stop.
reading this freaked me out. I reverse-searched it and it said the carrier is “Ameritech Ohio” in Dublin, OH…? make any sense to anyone?

  12. cs March 21st, 2006 11:03 pm

Hey Nikki, that’s weird, I suddenly began getting calls from that number, repeatedly today. 614-717-4395….apparently they also called me from 614-791-4693. I did a search on the phone number, and the only thing I could find was this blog. I looked up the “Ameritech Ohio” name you mentioned…it seems to be some kind of phone service…it kept coming up that they’d recently been in a big lawsuit (Google search). Weird. Anyway, they called several times today + didn’t leave a message. However, they called at around 9:00 pm and some guy left a shady, vague message, asking to call him back at some 1-800 number he rattled off. F— that! Stop callin’ me, dude!

  13. cs March 21st, 2006 11:08 pm

By the way, the calls were to my cell phone, not a land line. It’s really weird when I read how a couple other people on here are getting calls from the same number…

  14. Gina April 17th, 2006 2:08 pm

I just got this call a few mintues ago on my cell phone. Decided to search the number and found this site. i don’t speak spanish, and it was a recording like you’d said. Strange stuffs.

  15. Ami April 18th, 2006 10:21 pm

I just got the Miami, FL number last night after a long day of studying and work. >_

  16. spacel0rd May 9th, 2006 10:10 am

I gotten this phone call too. Ameritech is a phone company…I live in Columbus and Dublin is a part of Columbus. I think i used to have service through them a few years ago….so it doesnt sound too scary.

  17. horsehater June 19th, 2006 12:25 pm

Hey I got a call from 614-717-4395 today. Guy was a real jerk on the phone. He said his name was “Cedric”, but wouldn’t say who he was calling from. He was asking for me but I was telling him I wasn’t here. He got mad when I accused him of being a telemarketer, then I hung up on him. If he calls back, I’ll harrass him some more until he tells me who his business is.

  18. Jim June 20th, 2006 7:11 pm

I got a call from 614-717-4395, the person asked for my wife but when I said she was not avail. He started talking about alot of personal information (BIG RED FLAG) it is illegal to discuss information with anyone but that person. He had her DOB and SSN and was “collecting” on an “un-paid” student loan. He used typical collection tactics of being forceful and yelling. Needless to say, he wanted financial information and to “re-pay” the loan. Funny thing she does not have a student loan. Doing a search for the 614 area code brings up Columbous Ohio, even though he claimed to represent a Southern State. He said he would “Garnish her wages” I told him I was a lic. Attorney in Alabama and to go right ahead. Needless to say the phone call came to an abrupt end. BE VERY WARY if you get a phone call from this number.

  19. shivasthirdeye June 22nd, 2006 12:47 pm

I just recieved a call on my work phone from 614-717-4395 & then on my cell moments later. I googled & found this place, then as I’m reading they call again on my cell. This time I answered - it was OSI collections services, the person I spoke to was aware that it showed as a 614 area code but wasn’t sure why. I, unlike Jim’s wife, do have a student loan that is in repayment & they have all the information they could want about me. They have my acct # & routing number & I have verified through my student loan holder (seperately) & through monthly statements (from both) that the money they withdraw monthly is being applied to my loan. And just as a point, they did garnish my wages at my last job, I was called to HR, whom they had contacted upon learning of my employment, and they had all the paperwork necessary…those monies too were verified as being applied to the balance of my loan.
NOW, not ALL calls showing this number may be them (OSI), it sounds like it may be a routing number. Plus, the people I’ve spoken to have always been up front about who they are (they give a standard business introduction when I answer) & what they are doing. Not one of them has ever been the least bit shady or even overly forcefull, and I have spoken with them on numerous occasions.

  20. someone July 14th, 2006 2:24 pm

I got a call from 614 717 4395, and they tried to get my DOB so that I can verify. They found out that I graduated from some college and they are calling me about my school loans. Becareful.

  21. susanjacobs August 2nd, 2006 12:45 am

My mother got a call from 614-717-4395 about me. They told her that I had applied for a job, and I had used her as a reference. First off, I no longer live in the US, and I have no intention of working in the US again. Second, why would I use my mother as a reference? Most employers will not accept a relative as reference (unless of course you did actually work for them… not the case here).

My mother said that the name of the company was Outsourcing Sol. I googled it, and I didn’t find anything. I then googled the phone number and found this page.

For information purposes, my mother doesn’t own a cell phone, so she would have had to get the call at home.

I do have a student loan in the US so this may be why they contacted my mother, but to lie to her about it, that is just low.

I will have to email her and tell her NOT to answer the phone for that number.

  22. Jill August 15th, 2006 7:59 pm

I had 2 missed calls from 614-717-4395 today on my cell phone, googled it, and like many of you, found this site.
My step son has a student loan out which is in collections, so I’m sure that’s why I was contacted.
    Thanks for the heads-up!
    BTW, I never answer a number I don’t know… :)

  23. Julia August 17th, 2006 7:25 pm

I just got a call from 614-717-4395 on my cell phone too. This is the third one! They hung up when I answered this time. Previously they have just hung up w/ no answer and didn’t leave a voice mail message. I have a student loan out too but it’s in good standing….I’ve tried calling the number back from my office phone but the line seems to be constantly busy.

  24. antonio August 24th, 2006 7:39 pm

i received calls from the same number 614-717-4395 and i am now releived to know that this must definitely be osi collection agency for student loans for which i do owe. osi recently offered a program to repay my loan and get out of default thats how they got so much info im guessing. so if you have a student loan in default osi is the ones looking to collect.

  25. April August 31st, 2006 2:50 pm

I got a call from this 614-717-4395 number today, too. The chick said she was calling about a “debt collection that I owed to someone named Danielle with whom I lived with in New Hampshire.” #1 - I don’t know anyone named Danielle, and #2, I’ve NEVER lived in New Hampshire!! So I told her that she had the wrong April and she says, “Are you sure?” and I said to her I’ve never lived in NH and I don’t know anyone named Danielle! She started to get annoyed and asks AGAIN if I’m sure!! This is wierd. I tried to find out more info, but only got as far as everyone else on this page did. Totally bogus, if you ask me.

  26. Lori September 14th, 2006 5:15 pm

I kept getting calls from OSI also so I finally talked to them. They offered a great deal. Paying only a fraction of what was owed on student loans then, according to them, the federal government would forgive the rest. Then the next words were, “we need to do a check by phone”. Ok, I might be blonde & not always the sharpest tool in the shed but I’m NOT giving any account numbers over the phone. When I asked to have something sent in writing that I could verify they refused, not their policy, I was told. I say beware of these people. Any half way good hacker can get the info these people have. Including the federal government if they want it.

  27. babagaga September 22nd, 2006 3:28 pm

this is totally sketchy. got a call from the collection agency in ohio, re: unpaid student loans. the call came in at about 6 am this morning, and i obviously did not answer it. the best part was the message… trying to sound like maybe someone i knew, going “hey whats up?” all far away sounding a shit, and then “call me back!”

  28. joe October 17th, 2006 12:19 am

oh man im a total sucker for this i knew something was wrong after i was done talking to him on the phone…..(614)717-4395….he called about he was a collection agency for my college loans…..sad to say i believed him……im and idiot….he fax me papers at my work….i filled them out…sent them back…..WRONG….he said i would be put in some government rehibilitation programe for my credit…..man im a sucker…..first initial payment of 468.00 and then a monthly payment of 50.00 man i wish i didnt do that so now i have to start all over…….thanks you scam asshole…and i if find you…. YOUR DONE!!!!!!

  29. Karen December 12th, 2006 10:10 pm

Wow - this is all very interesting. I also have been getting calls at my office from OSI from the 614-717-4395 number and spoke with someone regarding my student loans. They mentioned that had just spoken with my mother which was a lie as my parents were out of the country on vacation. Well, I have been repaying my loans through another company for several months already but this OSI company is saying they are trying to collect on a separate loan. I said that before I pay anything to them, they need to mail me a copy of the signed Promissory Note for the loan they are trying to collect. Needless to say, they mailed me one page with my signature on it but there is no amount of money on the “Note”. Looks shady to me as a Promissory Note should have a loan amount reflected on it… Anyway, they keep calling my office and I don’t know whether to ignore them or what to do. Does anyone know if this company is actually legit?

  30. amy January 24th, 2007 1:38 pm

I received a phone call on my cell this morning at 8:10 a.m. I thought it was a bit early for any calls and didn’t answer it because I didn’t recognize the number. I am glad I looked up this number & came to this website. Now, I know to be careful that there are scammers out there trying to get $$$ through outstanding student loans, etc… Thanks all!

  31. Melissa February 20th, 2007 2:32 pm

I received a call from this number last night. He asked for a guy that had the same last name as my maiden name. I told him I didn’t know anyone by that name. He said “are you sure, he applied for a job and listed you as a reference. He said you were family.” I told him that was my maiden name but that I didn’t know anyone by that name(after reading this board, I wish I wouldn’t even have told him that). He gave me the DOB for the person and asked me again if I know him. After I hung up, I started to get worried that it was a scam, so I have repeatedly tried to call the number back to see what they say when they answer, but it is ALWAYS busy. Kinda scary what people can get away with these dayse.

  32. Melissa February 20th, 2007 2:33 pm

Oops, in the above post, I was talking about the 614 number. I left that out. (And please excuse my typo in the word days.)

  33. cathy620 February 26th, 2007 7:56 pm

THE ONLY OSI THAT I KNOW OF THAT IS FOR REAL IS A INHOUSE COLL. FOR A CREDIT CARD CO. HSBC AND I BELIVE THEY WORK SOLEY FOR HSBC. BUT AFTER I RECIVED MY CALL FROM THIS NUMBER I CALLED MY PHONE CO. AND PUT A BLOCK ON IT AND ALSO CALLED BBB AND BANK AND CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND MY INTERNET PROVIDER AND TRUST ME I AM NOT DONE YET NEXT I AM CALLING THE UITILLTIY COMMISON AND REPORT THIS PHONE NUMBER AS BEING USED UNLAWFULLY THEN WHOEVER NAME IT IS UNDER WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO HAVE PHONE PREVILAGES EVER AGAIN NOT TO MENTION THE FINE THEY WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE ABUSE OF THE PHONE SERVICES!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. s1n February 28th, 2007 12:04 am

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more blatant abuse of the English language as that. Thank you cathy620 for a perfect example why sniffing glue is not a good idea.

I really doubt you’ll be successful in preventing this entity from continuing their service, no matter how annoying it may be. Telemarketers have been abusing the phone service since the very inception of the phone. I’m also not really sure how you know this entity is operating illegally either.

  35. Laurie March 15th, 2007 1:27 am

Yeah, ….my bf keeps getting these calls from the 614 number, and we’ve received a bill from a company called OSI stating that he owes on a student loan. When calling the 614 number I always get a busy signa. However, I did the *67 thing to block my number and called 1-800-236-3100 which was listed on the letter. I didn’t say anything, or ask for anyone. Instead I put my phone on mute so that they couldnt hear me. Yet, I heard them, repeating my phone number! The same number I had blocked!!! I’m definitely giving my phone company a call!
